Chief Tunde: A Journey from Photography to Canvas Art
Arsene K, known as Chief Tunde, is a self-taught Canva artist with a rich and diverse background. Born and raised in Cotonou, Benin, West Africa, Chief Tunde’s artistic journey began through the lens of his camera. As an international photographer and reporter journalist, he spent years traveling across 30 African countries, capturing intimate and significant moments for families, royals, politicians, and various communities. His work documented the vibrant cultures and stories of the African continent, creating a visual archive of heritage and history.
A devoted husband and father of three, Chief Tunde relocated to Springfield, Ohio, in September 2021 to support his daughter’s business. What began as an opportunity to assist family soon blossomed into a newfound artistic expression. During slower days at his daughter’s store, he found himself drawn to painting—a passion that had been quietly nurtured over the years. It was here, in a small corner of the business, that Chief Tunde began creating vivid, thought-provoking pieces of art.
The community quickly took notice. Local customers were captivated by the stories his paintings told—each stroke of the brush reflecting his deep connection to the places and people he’d encountered throughout his life. It wasn’t long before people started to purchase his artwork, and after receiving his first commission, Chief Tunde realized he had found a new way to communicate his vision to the world. The emotional responses to his pieces—whether joy, nostalgia, or reflection—cemented his belief that it was time to share his art on a larger scale.
Today, Chief Tunde’s artwork is available for purchase in person at 808 W Main St, Springfield, Ohio, where his work continues to inspire and connect with individuals. Open from Monday to Friday, 10 AM to 7 PM, his exhibit is a living testament to the power of creativity, passion, and storytelling. Through each piece, Chief Tunde invites you to see the world through his eyes—one filled with cultural richness, human connection, and artistic brilliance.
